The day kicked off with palpable excitement as the U14 boys’ and girls’ finals took center stage. However, the weather had other plans, as unexpected rainfall led to the cancellation of several games, prioritizing the safety of the young players. Despite this setback, the community’s spirit remained unyielding, showcasing resilience and enthusiasm.

Over 2,500 locals and school learners gathered to enjoy the festivities, creating an electric atmosphere filled with local brass bands, school war cries, and on-court entertainment. In the girls’ final, Luka Primary School emerged victorious against Mfidikwe Primary School, claiming the championship trophy. Mmeti Neo was honored as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the match, showcasing her exceptional skills on the court.

On the boys’ side, the competition was fierce, with Lebone II College dethroning the defending champions, Bonwakgogo Primary School. Reatlegile Rangwako received the MVP accolade for his outstanding performance, further highlighting the talent present at the event.

Additionally, a ‘Her Time To Play’ clinic engaged 70 girls from Kitsong Primary School in a leadership workshop focused on essential skills like trust and communication. This initiative aimed to empower young girls and encourage their participation in sports.

Sports Achievements

The second RBS Jr. NBA Future Stars Camp also took place at the Royal Marang Hotel Club, where ten mentees gathered to discuss the business of sport and their vision for the RBS Jr. NBA programme. Later that evening, an annual gala dinner acknowledged the academic and sports achievements of youth participants, coaches, and educators within the Bafokeng Nation. Although the weather disrupted some of the finals, the event succeeded in uniting the community and celebrating young talent.

The continuation of the RBS Jr. NBA Finals for U16 and U18 teams will be rescheduled for a later date, ensuring that all young athletes have the opportunity to showcase their skills.
