FanDuel Sportsbook and Horse Racing Track in Collinsville Set to Expand with New Casino

The FanDuel Sportsbook and Horse Racing track in Collinsville, Illinois, is on the brink of an exciting transformation. Recently, the Illinois Gaming Board (IGB) approved plans for the addition of a casino, with the goal of having the new racino operational in time for the highly anticipated 2025 Kentucky Derby. This development marks a significant milestone for the venue, which has long been a staple of the local entertainment scene.

Ownership Transfer to Accel Entertainment

The approval from the IGB came after the transfer of ownership from Fairmount Holdings, Inc. to Accel Entertainment, a licensed terminal operator. This transition is pivotal as it allows for the integration of a casino alongside the existing racetrack facilities. Fairmount Park was designated as one of the authorized racinos under Illinois’ 2019 gaming expansion law, paving the way for this new venture.

Lianne Adams, a representative from FanDuel Sportsbook and Horse Racing, expressed enthusiasm about the development, stating, “This means we can move forward with developing the casino here at the track, putting us into a full racino. This is going to add about 200 jobs in slots and other categories to the track, as well as provide more entertainment and experiences for our guests that come to the track.” The addition of a casino is expected to enhance the overall experience for visitors, offering a wider array of entertainment options.

Commitment to Safety: Human Trafficking Training for Casino Employees

In a proactive move, the IGB also authorized a new rule requiring casino employees across Illinois to undergo training focused on recognizing human trafficking. This initiative underscores the board’s commitment to ensuring the safety and integrity of gaming establishments in the state.

IGB Administrator Marcus Fruchter highlighted the importance of this training, stating, “Human trafficking is a problem that demands action from public, corporate, and private sectors. Human traffickers often target casinos and hospitality venues to conduct their activities.” By mandating this training, the IGB aims to equip casino staff with the knowledge and tools necessary to identify and report suspicious activities, thereby fostering a safer environment for all patrons.

Public Engagement on Gaming Innovations

In addition to the casino approval, the IGB is actively seeking public input on two significant initiatives: the incorporation of video gaming into the Self-Exclusion Program and the implementation of cashless wagering technology. These developments aim to enhance the gaming experience while also addressing concerns related to problem gambling.

The Self-Exclusion Program is designed to assist individuals who wish to limit their gambling activities. By incorporating video gaming into this program, the IGB hopes to provide a more comprehensive approach to responsible gaming. Meanwhile, the introduction of cashless wagering technology could streamline the betting process, making it more accessible and user-friendly for patrons.

The IGB is accepting comments on these topics until January 13, 2025. Interested individuals can submit their feedback through the IGB’s official website, ensuring that community voices are heard in shaping the future of gaming in Illinois.

Anticipated Timeline for Construction and Opening

Construction for the new Collinsville casino is expected to commence at the beginning of 2025, with an ambitious timeline set for completion by April, just in time for the Kentucky Derby. This strategic timing not only aligns with one of the most significant events in horse racing but also positions the racino to attract a large influx of visitors eager to experience the new offerings.

Illinois currently boasts a vibrant gaming landscape, featuring 15 casinos, 15 approved sportsbooks, and a network of over 8,700 licensed video gaming establishments. The addition of the Collinsville racino is poised to further enrich this dynamic environment, providing residents and visitors alike with more opportunities for entertainment and leisure.

As the FanDuel Sportsbook and Horse Racing track prepares for this exciting new chapter, the community can look forward to a venue that not only enhances the local economy through job creation but also prioritizes safety and responsible gaming practices.
